Thinking...

This time of year gets me thinking of all I have accomplished (or not) and all I hope to accomplish in the coming year. Life often brings surprises, but it is important to set goals for yourself. Making resloutions don't seem to work out for me. I usually make my resolutions but then when I break it, I just give up. lame, I know. So last year I decided to give myself a single word that I wanted to be my theme for the year. Last year I chose "thrive". It was good and so many ways I did thrive. However, I think I can do better (better is a good one).
Now I am pondering an appropriate word for the coming year.
It is important to make it not just a good word, but one that I can really embrace (embrace is a good one) and let it sink into many aspects of my life.
Have you ever done this? What word would you choose?
I think I have my word. It is in one of these sentences. Can you figure it out?

Santa Visit

I'm not going to call this Santa lame. That wouldn't be nice. So I will tell you that he was about half an hour late getting back from his break. Not cool. Then they wouldn't let us take our own pictures. Previously if you bought something they would let you take your own pictures as well. The least expensive one you could buy was $20. Times are tough, yada, yada, yada...I understand why, but still...

The boys were happy to hop up in his lap, but could SOMEBODY please smile? I guess that is too much to ask for! They are cute even if they don't smile!
Besides it's all about the tradition.
But if you ask me, last year's Santa was way better!

White Out

Our snow storm was everything it was built up to be! We got between 18 and 20 inches and that is the most snow I have ever seen. Instead of causing your eyes to bleed and posting all 228 pictures (no I am not exaggerating) I took in a span of 24 hours, I decided to make a few collages of the pics. If you would like to see bigger views of our Snow Slovelapalooza you can click on the images and enlarge the collages.
Mom and Michele will be here on Wednesday and are hoping for a White Christmas. I think they will get their wish! The high for every day this week is about 32-34 degrees. Brrrrrr
Oh and I got to see a snow blower work today and those things are cool! I never thought that those words would be typed by my fingers! It is like a tiller, but it shoots the snow out a chute at the top. Our neighbor got her driveway done and were were in awe of the snowblower. Not that we need one. You see I bought jackson a $5 kid's snow shovel and he adores it. Miller wants one of his own (I'm not making this up!) and as soon as I can get back there, I'll be getting him one too! Those boys have to earn their keep!

Storm of the Century

We are in the midst of the storm of the century. Some of the words used by the meteorologists to describe it before it even got here were, "Crippling", "enormous", "monumental", "record breaking" and the list goes on. All I could say was, "Bring IT!!!"
It started late last night and we woke to 3ish inches. We went out at about 9 and had about 6 inches. Now it is about noon and I'd say it is about 8 inches deep. More is coming as it is supposed to last until tonight. They were calling for between 10 and 20 inches of snow for us. That is a big range, but any way you slice it, that is a ton of snow!

Call it whatever you want, we just call this storm "FUN!" As long as we keep power!

This little santa has been running around our house with his Santa hat on and the Mr. Potato Head Santa beard. It is quite funny!

All's Well

Just a quick post to let you know that the Butterbean did great today with his surgery. He was there and home in a little over 2 hours. You just can't ask for any better than that, can you?
Hopefully this will lead to an easier time for him as cold season kicks into full swing!

Free Computer?

Could it be that they are giving away free computers? Dear me, how cool would this be?
They are giving away one free here too

and here

And possibly some more places that I don't know about yet, but oh my, I WANT one!

Snow Days are here

We have had a really mild fall this year, so we were really suprised by snow on Saturday. We barely got the leaves cleaned up the weekend before the snow. They had only called for a dusting so we were really surprised that we got about 5 inches!
One thing that we are always amazed by is how quickly the roads are cleared. This storm took everyone by surprise, but the roads were taken care of and fine for driving.

We had plans for Saturday too. We were going to Krispy Kreme for breakfast, then we were going to cut down our Christmas tree. Later that evening we were going to the tree lighting for our city at the park near our house and our friends were going to go with us and then were going to stay and have dinner with us. We did 50% of what we intended, but the day was even better than we could have hoped.

Krispy Kreme, check!

This is after his 2nd donut. MA-jor sugar high!

Cutting down a tree, nope.

Tree lighting was cancelled. Boo!

Our friends did come over for dinner and we had so much fun! Instead of going to the tree lighting we went for a walk to see Christmas lights. Within the first 5 minutes it seemed like a BAD idea, but we ended up having a blast!

We did, however, get a tree from a nursery on Sunday and we love it very much!
Jackson had a blast eating the snow off the trees as we shopped. Crazy boy!

Once we got home Miller was able to enjoy the snow from our cleared off sidewalk. He wasn't a fan of walking in it, but he did like it if he could stand firmly on pavement near it and eat it from a safe distance.

That afternoon we attempted to take our Christmas card picture. An exercise in patience! Here are some that are NOT our Christmas card photo!

Friday Miller is scheduled to get tubes in his ears. Pray the surgery is fast and goes well. Hopefully this will help him with the many ear infections he has endured this year!

Lots of this going on...

A long time ago, I used to say, "It ain't easy being me!" all the time. While it wasn't necessarily true then, I thought it was. I could tattoo it across my forehead now, because there is a lot of this going on these days.

Like 381 times a day!
The difference is that these days I have a wonderful thing called perspective and I know that while I think it is tough, it is also so good!
The thing is that I thought Jackson was rambunctious. Then I met this guy. Whew! He wears me out-usually before 8 a.m. I have a feeling that he has some stunts up his sleeve.
By the way I had to show you a shot from a distance so that you could tell that he is on the dining room table. It looks like it should be the recycling bin! You know I have no shame since I showed you that!
